Caring, Connected, Creative, Life-long Learner

Tēnā koutou

This is the last School Newsletter for 2021. School years go by in a blur at the best of times but it’s hard to fully grasp how much has happened in the past 12 months. There have been huge challenges for us all. Thank you for everything and all that you have done to keep our school a positive, safe place throughout this year. To Parent League who run and support our fundraisers and parents who help in countless ways.  From all of the Staff at Puketapu School we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.

Before we get to the end of this year, I wanted to touch base with you about the arrangements for the start of the school year 2022.

New daily bus service contracts commence at the beginning of the new school year.

As with every new school year, there is likely to be some initial teething problems with students and their school transport services.

Ensuring students get safely on and off the bus

This is particularly important for the start of the school year while both students and school transport services settle in.

Action required:

  • Continue to inform your student’s caregivers the need for them to either:
    • stay with their children while they are waiting for their school transport in the morning and meet them in the afternoon as they get off the bus, or
    • keep in contact with their children to make sure that they are picked up safely.

"Puketapu Auction and Country Fair - 27th Feb 2022"

The Puketapu School Parent's League is planning a Farmer's Market theme for next year's Fair. This note is a heads up that we'll be asking for donations of the following:

- produce

- seedlings/cuttings

- lucky dip items

- cakes and baking

We'll also be assisting Mary from the Puketapu Hotel with serving food for the masses.

It's going to be a big one and it's right after school goes back, so make a mental note and enjoy your summer holidays.

Thanks - any queries to Amy Bowkett, Chair of PPLA.

SPORTS UNIFORMS

Could you please wash and return your Sports Uniforms to the School Office as soon as your sports have finished for the year. Thank you from Mrs Jones.

SCHOOL HALL KITCHEN

Our School Hall Kitchen has over the years become increasingly low in good useable kitchen ware and utensils.  If you think you have some ideal kitchen items to donate, please get in contact with the School Office.  Many Thanks.

CONGRATULATIONS

Lucy S competed in the HB Primary and Intermediate Schools Athletic Champs and placed 4th for Year 5 Girls. Well done Lucy.

MR WOOSTER

Mr Wooster has returned to the delight of students and staff.  He is on light duties with Mike Kemp sharing the load.  Annika, Rosa and Leon presented Mr Wooster with a signed card from all students and staff and was very overwhelmed at the generous amount raised for him.

Congratulations to our Yr 8 Kapa Haka members and those who received their taonga for their commitment to Kapa Haka over 4 years. Despite the cancellation of the festival, the roopu performed with excellence at a special night concert at school.

YMCA PRE CHRISTMAS AND JANUARY HOLIDAY PROGRAMMES

The YMCA is operating a pre-Christmas programme from the 16th of December at Raureka and Taradale Primary right up until 6pm on the 24th of December 2021.  This relaxed programme will see the children spend time at the pools and movies while also giving back to the community with a beach clean up and sharing Christmas gifts to a charity.  Christmas crafts and food will also feature. .

Their January programme starts on the 5th at our four sites across HB, based at Taradale Primary, Marewa School in Napier, Raureka School in Hastings and from the Hastings Sports centre. They are open from 7.30am till 6.00pm each day until school starts back.  Our HB sun is harsh so this year they start the holiday programme by Tie Dying white bucket hats that they will provide.  They don’t have hidden costs at their holiday programme, all the participants need each day is appropriate clothing and footwear, food for the day and for summer togs and a towel and a hat.  As always they have wide range of activities aimed at. two age groups 5-8 years and 9-13years  to ensure the children have a fun filled holidays. They believe there is something for everyone.  Numbers will be limited and they have had to close past programmes due to being full, so please  book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
