Caring, Connected, Creative, Life-long Learner

Covid -19 Level 4
It is really important we do everything we can to keep our community safe.
Alert Level 4 means we need to stay home in our bubbles and avoid any
travelling as much as possible.

Our focus as always will be to support the learning, safety and wellbeing of our rangatahi and tamariki and we continue to be here to support you as well.
By now, your child's class teacher will have made contact with you via
email. Some learning tasks will be sent to you on Thursday.
Hopefully this will be just a short break from school and as we know there will be no impact on learning so don't worry if your child does not get to the work. Keep them busy with chores and break out the board games.
If we are instructed to extend the lockdown there will be further contact
and information about how we will transition to more on-line learning.

Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s kaiako or me, if there is
something you need assistance with.

At the time of writing we are uncertain if the Working Bee can go ahead as
planned. We are working with the supplier to see if delivery is possible. We won't
know until later  in the week. We will pass on any news as soon as we have
it.

On Sunday 22nd August a Working Bee is being held at School @11am. Putting bark on three playgrounds and renewing the sand in the sandpit. We have the use of a loader to put the bark where we need it, so we just need people to bring their rakes to place the bark evenly in the playground areas. We also require spades and wheelbarrows to put sand in the sandpit. Let's get together and make this a fun morning. Many hands make light work, even if you can only give an hour, it all helps. Please contact Emma Mitchell if you are able to help - 027 777 6009.

Thank you Stu Parker and Dan Barker for helping us out with the spraying around school.  This is very much appreciated.

Just a reminder there is Teacher Only day next week Friday 27th August.

Pet Day -Friday 24th September.

Trail Ride 2022 - The date for our Annual Trail Ride has been set - Sunday 27th March 2022.

Helping Parents Develop Internet Safety with their child.

Netsafe’s Online Safety Parent Toolkit is a simple and practical seven-step framework to help parents with digital parenting in a rapidly changing world. Their downloadable version of the Parent Toolkit offers practical tips that will help you talk to your child about online safety. It includes:

  • Quickstarter tips for parents, whānau and young people
  • Information to enhance your digital parenting knowledge
  • Details about the online risks and challenges your child may face
  • Advice about how you can help your child

It’s important parents feel confident to have ongoing conversations with their child about their online activities, as these conversations have been proven to minimise the harm that can occur if things do go wrong online.

Seven ideas to help you get started

The following tips have been developed with parents in mind. They are designed to enhance your digital parenting knowledge and reinforce key elements of online safety

1. UNDERSTAND. Read about the potential online risks, challenges and sometimes illegal behaviour young people face to understand what may happen.

2. LEARN. Ask your child about what they do, who they talk to and how they use devices to learn about their activities. Check in regularly to see what has changed.

3. EXPLORE. Take the time yourself to explore the sites, apps and technologies your child uses to improve your knowledge and understand their experience.

4. AGREE. Create a family code with your child to agree on what they can do online including sites to visit, appropriate behaviours, privacy settings and limitations.

5. TEACH. Recognise each child has unique needs, but some online safety concepts are universal. Start by teaching yours the 5 tips to help your child thrive.

6. MODEL. Be a good example to your child. Make sure you role model the sort of behaviours you want to see your child use online and offline.

7. PLAN. Make a plan so everybody knows what to do if something goes wrong and where you will be able to get advice and support in challenging times.
