ATHLETICS

On Tuesday 22nd November we had our Senior Athletics Day (Year 3-8). It was great to see all the kids putting in their best effort and enjoying themselves throughout the day! The weather played its part and there was enough breeze to keep the heat at bay. Thank you to all the parents who came to support and for helping out on the day. A special thanks to Adrienne who had a busy day on first aid. A big thanks to Mike Kemp who went above and beyond with his help in mowing the tracks and transporting the gear!

Congratulations to the following students who got in the top 3 for their age category!

COHORT ENTRY 2023

Thank you to everyone who responded to our ‘Cohort Entry’ survey at the beginning of term. Your responses helped to inform the BoT.

79% of responses were in favour of adopting the cohort entry system.

We have informed the Ministry of Education and are giving more than a terms notice about the change, as per regulations. We  will proceed with our first ‘cohort entry’ in Term 2.

This means that if your child turns 5 after the 6th April there will be only two start dates per term. (Week 1 and week 5)

If your child turns 5 between December2022 and 5th April 2023, they will enrol on their 5th birthday.

We believe that this is a really positive change for the children as well as for teachers and parents.

CANCELLATION - Message from Tri HB

So sorry to bring you this news, but Triathlon HB have had to CANCEL the HB Primary and Intermediate Schools Triathlon event, scheduled for Monday 28 November at Frimley Park.

We were so looking forward to hosting this event for the kids, especially after the event was cancelled due to Covid in 2019 and we know we had so many enthusiastic children in HB wanting to take part. We are also aware that school administrators and teachers have already put so much effort into organising team and entries and we do apologise.

Bruce and I have been General Managers of Triathlon HB for the past 5 years and are moving to Nelson shortly with our last day at Triathlon HB being 21 November. A new General Manager couple, were employed by Tri HB 4 weeks ago, but unfortunately they resigned late last week. The Committee have been working very hard over the past few days to try and find a way to still operate the event, however as we are sure you can imagine, there are many health and safety aspects, volunteer training, recruiting a new Event Director, traffic management plans, registrations to input, Council permits and sponsorships to put in place and there simply isn’t enough time.

So sorry for the inconvenience. If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Regards

Ngaia Richardson  I General Manager Triathlon Hawke’s Bay

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Tristan T  who has received a Foundation Scholarship from HBHS for 2023. Well done Tristan.

KAPA HAKA

Our Kapa Haka Roopū  this year has again been a great success and represented our Kura with pride.

At our School Assembly Sharing, eligible Year 8's were presented with their pounamu  taonga, a very special reminder of their commitment and leadership in our Kapa Haka Roopū.

The festival was such a highlight for all our tamariki.  They all stood tall and performed our waiata and haka with mana.

We are very proud of them all!

Special thanks to Matua Mike and Ms Bailey for their ahwi and tautoko this year.
