Caring, Connected, Creative, Life-long Learners

Morena

Once again it has been a busy term.  Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our school.  It is very much appreciated. Friday 30th September is the last day of  Term 3.  School will finish at 3.00pm.  Afcare and school buses will run as normal. Wishing you a safe and happy holiday break and we look forward to seeing you on Monday 17th October.

Wellbeing & Behaviour

This term we have seen an increase in name calling, put downs and unkind behaviour. We want to stop this and find ways to enable students to behave appropriately towards their peers and lift their mood, so that students will be able to focus more easily on their academic progress.

Types of behaviours being noticed/reported

Name calling, put-downs, exclusions, out of school online comments and inappropriate on-line viewing. Unlike physical bullying these behaviours are difficult to catch, They often go unreported for fear of reprisal and are repressed until a child goes home. Often, the first we know about it is through contact from an anxious parent.

Plan

Term 4  - Teachers will be using a variety of positive behaviour programmes daily in their classrooms. Please talk to your children about how it is not OK to tease, name call or spread rumours. Most social media has an age limit of 13+. Children should not access it. You can keep up to date with cybersafety parenting tips via www.Netsafe.org.nz

Holiday Work

The entrance to the school is getting a revamp over the holiday period. We will be removing the uneven cobbles and kerb stones, repositioning the gates and making the whole area more attractive. Workers will be on-site and there will be no access to the school or the school carpark. We will also be continuing our painting programme. Norton painters will be working on Rm 7&8.

We want your feedback

Over the next couple of weeks you will receive two separate emails inviting you to take part in a survey. One will be about cohort entry the other will be about our values and future direction. Your responses will help inform the Board make decisions for 2023 and beyond.

Lost property is on display at the front of the school.  Please check that there is nothing there that belongs to your child.  All lost property will be removed on Friday and donated to charity.

PhotoLife - We have been informed by PhotoLife that photo's taken this term will be available to purchase two weeks into next term.  They apologise for the delay.

Japanese Students - We have two Japanese students starting with us in March - 6th - 31st 2023.  They would like a homestay experience for a weekend.  If you are interested in this please contact the school office,

Sports Uniforms - Please return your washed sports uniforms as soon as possible.

Hats - We are a sun smart accredited school therefore wide brimmed hats are compulsory in Terms 4 and 1.

To encourage people to change career and become a teacher, we offer two different types of career changer scholarships. Both pay course fees plus $30k per year of study and are open from 15 September to 13 October. These scholarships are very popular and we know career changers go on to enjoy fulfilling teaching careers.

  • The number of Te Huawhiti career changer scholarships available for all sectors and subjects is increasing by 100 additional places to 185 places.
  • In addition, 115 Te Waka Whakarei career changer scholarships are available for Māori-medium and te reo Māori teachers.
