Caring, Connected, Creative, Life-long Learner

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Tim and his wife Sarah on their new arrival on Saturday 20th August - a healthy baby girl. We wish them all the best and hope the sleeping soon gets sorted.

ATTENDANCE

The Ministry of Education are launching a nationwide campaign in order to lift student attendance in schools.

Understanding regular attendance levels is a useful gauge for how students are participating in learning.  It helps schools and the Ministry of Education direct resources and support to where they are most needed.

Regular Attendance

Regular attendance = attending more than 90% of the time or being in school 9 days a fortnight. 90% sounds quite good but even at this rate it would mean that a child misses 5days or 1 week of learning per term. That equates to 4 weeks missed per year! Events like a birthday or a special day’s shopping aren’t considered valid reasons for being away from school either. Keep Talking to Your Children

What’s a good way to ask my child how their school day was and not get blanked?

As our children get older, they sometimes become more reluctant to share their day and their thoughts with you. Keeping lines of communication open with them is vital if we are to keep them safe and guide them towards making good choices. I came across this the other day which might be helpful in engaging your child in positive conversations about school.

  • Ask them about a moment in their day when they felt excited about what they were learning.
  • What’s a question they have that came from their learning today?
  • Ask them if there were any moments today when they felt proud of themselves
  • Ask them to tell you about a conversation they had with a classmate or friend
  • Ask them what was challenging or fun about their day?
  • Ask them what they learned about themselves today?
  • Ask them what they are most looking forward to tomorrow?

Road Safety
Please be mindful that the speed limit when passing a school is 50kmph.  When passing a stationary bus this speed reduces to 20kmph.  Please be careful where you park and do not encourage your child to cross the road without adult supervision.  Thank you.

Spare Clothing
We do not have a surplus supply of clothing at school if your child was to get wet or muddy.  You are most welcome to pop some extra clothes into your child's bag.
